CTP psychology by telehealth across NSW
When travel is difficult, online appointments may offer another way to access psychological care. We will discuss whether telehealth is appropriate for your circumstances.
When to ask about telehealth
Tell us if distance, physical limitations, transport arrangements or anxiety about travel make attending a clinic difficult. You can also ask about telehealth while deciding which appointment format suits you.
We do not assume that online care is suitable for every person or every stage of treatment. Your psychologist will consider the clinical needs, your preferences, privacy, communication and safety. Funding arrangements also need to be confirmed.
Before your first online session
Our team will explain how to join the appointment. Ask about the technology you need, how the link is provided and what happens if the connection drops. SIRA's telehealth requirements generally favour video, with telephone use depending on the circumstances.
- Choose a private place where you can speak without being overheard.
- Use a suitable device and check the connection before the session.
- Let your clinician know your location and how to contact you if needed.
- Tell us about hearing, language, technology or accessibility needs.
Do not attend while driving or operating machinery. If you cannot speak privately or safely, contact the team to discuss another arrangement.
Privacy, consent and safety
Your clinician will discuss what telehealth involves and any limitations. You can ask questions about the platform, confidentiality and what to do if you need help during the appointment. Telehealth is not a crisis response service.
An online format does not remove the usual consent and record-keeping requirements. We also need to know if you will be outside NSW or overseas so the clinical, registration and funding implications can be checked before the appointment.
Confirm the funding for online care
Please do not assume that approval for a service automatically covers every format or provider. Our team checks the appointment arrangements and explains any fee that could be your responsibility.
You can ask about starting online, attending in person or discussing a mix of formats with your psychologist. The decision depends on clinical suitability, availability and the relevant insurer arrangements.
